Overview

Stripe and Paradigm incubated Tempo, a layer-1 blockchain designed primarily for stablecoin payments at scale. Announced in September 2025, its public testnet launched in December 2025, followed by a mainnet release that included a Machine Payment Protocol for AI agents and corporate users. The network claims existing crypto infrastructure was built for speculation rather than payment flows, and targets use cases including cross-border payouts, microtransactions, remittances, payroll and machine-to-machine transfers. Tempo incorporates dedicated payment lanes and aims for transaction costs around one-tenth of a US cent.
