Overview
Zcash is a decentralized digital asset that employs zero-knowledge proofs, specifically zk-SNARKs, to offer optional shielded transactions, in which the sender, recipient, and transaction amount are concealed. The network went live in 2016, originating as a fork of Bitcoin's source code, with privacy incorporated as a fundamental attribute. Participants may select between transparent addresses, which are public, and shielded addresses, which are private.
