Avalanche 9000 event
Overview
The Etna upgrade brought Avalanche9000 to the Avalanche mainnet on 16 December 2024, marking the protocol's most extensive update. Central to the changes was ACP-77, which reclassified Subnets as independent Avalanche L1s and eliminated the prior mandate that each validator stake 2,000 AVAX, substituting it with a smaller recurring fee. The Avalanche Foundation stated this reduced the expense of operating an L1 by roughly 99.9%. Additional modifications included dynamic fees on the P-Chain, a reduction in C-Chain base fees, and the standardisation of Interchain Messaging across Avalanche chains.
