Circle Launches CCTP v2 event
Overview
On March 11, 2025, Circle introduced the second iteration of its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP V2), deploying it first on Ethereum and Avalanche. The protocol transfers native USDC across chains via a burn-and-mint mechanism. V2 introduced a Fast Transfer mode, reducing settlement time to seconds instead of requiring full finality on the originating chain, along with Hooks that enable developers to execute automated actions on the receiving chain post-transfer. Circle later rolled out CCTP V2 to a broader set of networks and eventually made it the standard version, retiring CCTP V1.
