Overview
Circle disclosed on 1 July 2024 that it had obtained an electronic money institution licence from France's ACPR for its local entity, Circle Mint France (also known as Circle Mint Europe SAS). The authorisation, which came into force on the same day the EU's MiCA stablecoin rules became applicable, makes Circle the first global stablecoin issuer to meet the bloc's new regulatory standards. Under the licence, the firm can now issue and redeem USDC and EURC within the European Union.
