This followed a five-day staking event called 'Merlin's Seal', which ran from 5 to 10 February 2024 and was structured as a fair launch. Within its initial months, the network saw its total value locked climb into the billions of dollars. Throughout 2024, it became the biggest Bitcoin layer 2 by TVL, with a substantial portion of that value held in assets native to Bitcoin. The project's token, MERL, was introduced on 19 April 2024, with a fixed total supply of 2.1 billion tokens.
