Kenya ODPC Worldcoin Suspension event
Overview
Kenya became the first nation to completely stop Worldcoin's operations after the government ordered a halt in early August 2023. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced the suspension, which was prompted by worries over the collection of iris and eyeball data for citizen registration. The measure will remain in force while security, financial and data protection authorities examine the safety and legitimacy of the information gathered. Prior to the suspension, Worldcoin had attracted crowds by offering Kenyans cash and free WLD tokens for iris scans. Kindiki later informed Parliament that the suspension would not be lifted.
