Overview
The chief executive and chairman of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, was born on 25 January 1983 in San Jose, California. He co-founded the US crypto exchange with Fred Ehrsam in 2012 after participating in Y Combinator. Armstrong holds a bachelor's degree in both economics and computer science, as well as a master's in computer science, all from Rice University. Prior to launching Coinbase, he worked at IBM, Deloitte and Airbnb. The exchange went public through a direct listing in April 2021, achieving a market capitalisation of roughly $85 billion. In addition to Coinbase, Armstrong has co-founded ResearchHub and the biotech firm NewLimit.
