Overview
The second iteration of Chainlink's staking mechanism, known as Chainlink Staking v0.2, requires users to lock LINK tokens to support oracle service reliability in exchange for incentives. The platform's total capacity was set at 45 million LINK, with 40.875 million LINK designated for community participants and 4.125 million LINK allocated to node operators. Deployment occurred across three stages: a priority migration window for those who had staked in v0.1, opening on 28 November 2023; an early access period beginning 7 December 2023; and general availability from 11 December 2023. Key attributes include reward rates that adjust dynamically based on network usage, with a minimum baseline of 4.5%; a 28-day period to unbond tokens, followed by a seven-day window to claim them; a 90-day phase during which new stakers gradually reach full reward eligibility; and a penalty mechanism for node operators that fail to meet performance standards, from which community stakers are shielded.
