Overview
Polygon has rebranded its chain-development toolkit as the Agglayer CDK, targeting institutional clients rather than individual deployers. The platform, which Polygon helps enterprises design and customise, offers private blockspace combined with public liquidity, giving institutions control over throughput, compliance and interoperability alongside access to wallets, fiat on- and off-ramps and stablecoin infrastructure. Three configurations are available: Sovereign, the standard option that relies on pessimistic proofs for Agglayer security; Validium, which uses zero-knowledge execution with data stored offchain; and Private Validium, a variant tailored for institutional privacy needs. Polygon claims throughput exceeding 20,000 transactions per second for payment-optimised chains, with granular controls including API keys and access control lists that restrict permissions on specific contracts and RPC methods. Every chain built with the CDK connects to Agglayer, a cross-chain bridge protocol that pools liquidity and users across different blockchains, and integrates with Polygon's Open Money Stack for payments. Originally a toolkit for launching ZK-powered Polygon chains, the CDK has been refocused around Agglayer, with the three institutional modes and an emphasis on payments-grade performance and compliance.
