Diem project
Overview
Meta, then Facebook, developed Diem as a permissioned blockchain payment system intended to support a global digital currency. The initiative began under the name Libra before being renamed Diem in 2020. Following regulatory obstacles, the project was terminated in 2022, with its intellectual property and assets acquired by Silvergate Capital.
