Overview
A fintech firm called Bitt, established in 2013 and based in Barbados, develops infrastructure for central bank digital currencies. Its main offering, the Digital Currency Management System (DCMS), operates on Hyperledger Fabric and handles the creation, distribution and oversight of retail digital money. Bitt gained recognition for creating DCash alongside the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, which went live in March 2021 and is noted as the first retail CBDC to be publicly launched inside a formal currency union.
