Polkadot Hub protocol
Overview
A system chain called Polkadot Hub has gone live in 2026, merging the functions of Asset Hub and other system chains like the People Chain into a single location. It centralises user-facing operations such as staking, governance, identity management and asset handling. The chain introduces native smart contract capability via a dual virtual machine approach: the Revive pallet creates a shared execution environment where contracts written for both the PolkaVM and the Ethereum Virtual Machine can coexist in one runtime. This arrangement allows Solidity developers to deploy using standard Ethereum tooling on Polkadot, while native PVM contracts operate alongside them.
