Agile Coretime technology
Overview
Polkadot's resource-allocation mechanism has shifted from parachain slot auctions to a system called Agile Coretime. Previously, projects vied for slots through candle auctions, locking substantial DOT tokens to secure leases lasting up to two years, which created a high entry threshold. When the new model launched, existing leases were converted to coretime with renewal privileges. Agile Coretime offers blockspace as 'coretime' via two methods: bulk coretime, which involves 28-day allocations issued as NFTs that can be renewed at fixed prices, and also split or traded on secondary markets; and on-demand coretime, enabling projects to bid in near real-time for single-block validation. This approach allows established chains to secure predictable capacity while newer projects incur costs only for their actual usage.
